I recently had the great fortune to attend a lecture on Personal Branding by Lawrence Cunningham of CatchFire Media. Among other professional advice, he introduced everyone to a website called Vizify. After learning of this website, being the social media junkie I am, I had to get in on the action. It’s definitely another great way to amp up your online presence.
My favorite part about this website was the ease of set-up. I kid you not, it took me a total of 30 seconds to create my profile. I didn’t even have to type anything in, well for the most part. I suppose I changed a few things after my data was compiled on this site. Amazingly enough, this site connects your other social media profiles and does a pretty good job of creating a personalized biography.
After I took 30 seconds to connect my other social accounts, I simply had to view the contents and edit out anything I didn’t want to include. Overall, I would say it pegged the information I wanted it to include, minus a few random photos that made their way into the mix. However, the ease of editing allowed me to quickly dispose of the unwanted content.
Vizify just goes to show the power of social platforms. It also illustrates a great point about the changing world. If this had been introduces a year or so ago, I would venture to bet that people would have reacted negatively. They would have said something like, ‘This website is infringing on my privacy.’ In today’s interconnected world, though, this connectivity is almost second nature.
It also illustrates just how fast your social media profiles can define you. In less than a minute my social media had defined me in an interactive bio on Vizify. Which brings me to another important point. Be professional! If I would have spent my time using my social feeds to post pictures from my friends party and other controversial images, Vizify would have hurt me more than it helps me. However, as I monitor my feeds very closely, my personal brand showed up just as I would have wanted it to.
